League Business

  1. Membership Drive:
    1. Received educational fund donations from the Meyer and Iseman family. Need to review list of old members for deceased and moved away. Janet Meyers produced a fantastic future mailing to attract past supporters. Agreed future events are a necessary pull.
    2. Janet and Marion will review list and identify names to be removed. Revised list to be sent to members.
  2. Meeting Times
    1. Possibility of an evening meeting. Daytime meeting to include Osborn members and evening meeting to include the daytime employed. Agreed to hold meetings twice monthly thru February/March. Meetings will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Location?
  3. Web Site
    1. Steve Meyers and Anne Cochran will work on the www.ryelwv.org website. Currently have the domain registered and specific email accounts setup.

Miscellaneous Items

  1. Improving Voting Booths
    1. Janet & Steve Meyers noted elderly needed assistance in the Rye voting booths due to antiquated levers that were difficult to crank. In this day & age! We were surprised NY state has not yet moved to install new booths under HAVA though funds are available for upgrade of our voting systems.
  1. Transportation in Rye
    1. Parking plans update. Rye plans to implement meter test in 2005. This may occur in conjunction with additional consultants to review viable options for revenue producing parking meters. Consensus believed Rye should be concentrating on creating viable parking alternatives for CBD. Agreed that residents in general were not well versed on the issues or intentions and that LWV could offer public forum to discuss parking issues. Anne Cochran and Steve Meyers to coordinate event.
    2. Requirements for Affordable Housing in Rye - Ana & Marion will coordinate.
    3. Bring to County the discussions of Red & Blue states convention. Consensus believed this to be a probable state level event.

Discussion of Upcoming Events

  1. 2005 Speaker Series: All agreed we needed to move to put this in place ASAP.
    1. Christine Todd Whitman- It’s My Party Too. Catherine Parker thought of a Novel Night with the upcoming release of this book. Consensus at meeting to forge ahead with getting the details. Catherine will be assisted by Bonnie Novek.
    2. Social Security Reforms - Anne Cochran recently heard a speaker who was very informative on the subject. Consensus to book him.
    3. Environmental Speaker – Carolyn Cunningham is an option (she will be away till Feb-05), and Bonnie Novek will follow-up with Evan Heller (Save the Sound) to discuss a possible speaker.
    4. Truth in Television- Catherine Parker will contact Anthony Mason to discuss speaking.
    5. Patriot Act - Nita Lowey
