- Discussions were brought up on the following topics:
- Catherine Parker spoke about setting an agenda for this coming year and setting goals. Discussion was brought up about differentiating between board meetings and general meetings with general meetings being more topical.
- What can we do to get people to join LWV? What kind of public participation can we have to get potential members interested in the League of Women Voters? By rolling out ‘My Kids Are Smart Voters’ we can give local schools the tools to get kids interested in voting and get kids to get their parents to vote.
- The idea was brought up about having a kick off meeting for ‘My Kids Are Smart Voters’ pilot program. The program would have a free standing committee and meetings with the concept kicked off by September 2007.
- There was discussion at length about the ‘Smart Voter.org’ website.
- It was discussed as to which document distribution channels could be used to get the word out to different communities about Smart Voter.org. Also discussed was putting together a group of community leaders to get the info up and running. The names that were brought up were: Bob & Wanda Clyatt, Lorraine Levinson, Sandra Pratt, Peter Jovanovich.
- Discussion on scheduling a General Meeting for the end of February. Catherine Parker talked about having Anne Cochran set up a power point presentation on Smart Voter.org.
- Annual Meeting/League Business
- Catherine Parker brought up having a connection to Paul Francis who is the Budget Director for Governor Elliot Spitzer. She asked if it was of interest to have him be our guest speaker at the Annual Meeting in June. Everyone was in favor of that.
- The idea was brought up that the LWV should have a concrete idea or mission statement. The League should be in place to provide voter information and education. It should be a sellable idea for new members.
- To get the word of the League out into the community, we could get a schedule of existing monthly membership meetings that we could present our organization to. Possible ideas were: School PTO’s, Rye Rotary, Newcomers Club.
